Baule d'airs

festival d'art de rue

2016

Baule d’Airs 2016,” festival d’art de rue”, Baule d’airs Orlean, Loire, France.

This episode led me to investigate what is the best modus operandi to include artistic interventions in urban areas, by inscribing them in the landscape and in the daily breath of the communities. Moving from urban invasion to urban inclusion, I started to look for participatory methods and exchanging strategies in order to “embroider relationships”.

In the folds of the fabric: When in 2015 Luc Girard, artistic director of Baule d’Airs (Orleans, France), asked me to think about a decoration for the next edition of the festival, Baule d'Airs, I already knew the village of Baule, because I was there as a volunteer, helping to set up the decorations. That was a challenge for me. Usually the festival works as follows: one of the inhabitants designs the project and the others, from November until the end of May, build the decorations all together. Last month we guested Martina Russo, an expert in macramé and sculpture, she had consolidated two groups: manipulation textile and decoration.. Thus, the installation is designed and produced from the whole community.

What happened in 2016? The Latin roots cumbia music fanfare “La Belle Image”, the musical hearts of the village, celebrated twenty years. We decided to build with wool and reclaimed textile elements three large installations and a setting up of the whole festival-area. This work was the result of the dialogue built with the community for six months.
